How we inhabit, where we live, what makes community…The shift to the hyperlocal is front of mind in Bijl’s work.

Intentional living is on the rise, as we cultivate a growing awareness and acknowledgment of Country within our work and with our clients, and foster an ongoing refinement of our designs for flexible living, with the future firmly in mind. We continue to develop and explore the thoughtful use of materials and elements in our built outcomes, including reusing and recycling on site within the new works, specifying local timbers and stone, and integrating more endemic and indigenous plantings in collaboration with our landscape architect colleagues.

Over the past ten years at Bijl, we’ve seen an ascendance of resilient buildings that better serve their inhabitants and local communities, and our work will continue to strive to meet these same aspirations as a clear expression of our values and ethos.
