AES at Maranatha House

Commissioned by Bijl Architecture, AES is a double storey in-situ artwork lining the stairwell of a heritage-listed private home in Sydney’s Neutral Bay.
Formed from multiple carved and embossed bronze panels and custom fabricated by Axolotl in their Sydney workshop, the artwork is an exploration of form, materiality and experience. "You’ll never see my work the same way twice," says AES’ creator, digital craftperson Marcus Piper.
Derived from the journey and function inherent in something as utilitarian as a stairwell, AES brings life to the simple hand-rail, backlighting it to illuminate the interaction between hand and art. Consideration was also given to moments throughout the day; the journey between living and resting.
AES is a collaboration between Bijl Architecture, Marcus Piper, Axolotl, Stuart Wilson Construction and Pittwater Joinery.
